Next year should - with any luck, see a new class running at the ACU events. 8.50 bike has been trialled for the last year and a bit, and this year saw it really take off with 13 or more entries at some rounds. For anyone who doesn't know, 8.50 is a time index class, so the idea is to run as close to but not faster than an 8.50 ET.
The rules have really helped to open the class up as they allow for pretty much any type of bike- Turbo, nitrous, both, street tyres, slicks, with wheely bars, without wheely bars.

My interest in this new class? Well, it's due to the fact that the original bopchop would make an ideal candidate for it. Not that i can afford to enter 2 bikes and 2 classes, but if i can set it up ready and put an 8.5 on it would make it either a desirable purchase for someone or I'll try to find a suitable pilot to race it.
I don't quite have enough parts to build the bike back up yet, but I'm working on it. The front wheel, brake and disc are about to be relieved of duty from the new bike, as a proper RG125 front wheel and brake are being fitted. The front calliper is being rebuilt as it certainly wasn't "in good working order" (eBay quote). Other bits required are engine parts such as heavy duty studs & valve springs, and possibly a crank and clutch with straight cut gear.
Once the new ignition arrives i'll also have enough spare electrics to wire it and add some gas to it too.
It'll be good to see it built up again as it looks in a sorry 'pillaged' state right now, plus i'll not get grief of all the people who keep telling me not to let it rot in a corner. .... as if i would.

On a completely different subject, the Competition bike champion of the last 3 seasons - Ivan Birch, has decided to quit racing and has had his entire racing outfit up for sale recently. Not sure if he's got a buyer yet but either way he won't be racing next year. So good luck to Ivan and his team, hope to see them at some of the meetings supporting the class or maybe even the new bikes owner for a few meetings.
Anyway, here's a pic of most of team "Ignorance with conviction"
